It's been a year...

It's been a year since we've moved into our Monster of a House. It is amazing how much things have changed in a year. It's amazing how much crap we had to go through just to get it how it is now. Pictures will be coming!

Here is a recap of the this year (some good, but mostly bad)...

After moving in we noticed that we weren't the only ones living in the house, Water Bugs (aka American Cockroaches) lived here too. Horrible little creatures! Our house is now sprayed every quarter, so we haven't seen any inside since last year.

Brick basements like to leak and will flood at least 8in in the room where furnace #2 and water heater #1 are sitting.

Tore out 4700 sqft of old smelly dirty carpet and another 4700 sqft of old smelly carpet padding.

Removed about 7 billion carpet staples from our wood floors.

Brian refinished all of the downstairs wood floors and stairs and they look AMAZING!!!

We have gone through at least 100 gallons of paint and stain.

Had an earthquake that caused our balcony to crush a supporting pillar.

Water heater #2 exploded out the bottom on July 4th, and just recently water heater #1 exploded on Feb 14th.

Found out that our garbage disposal doesn't like me.

Woke up one rainy morning to 6 different roof leaks and two window leaks. It was more than a leak, rain was pouring into our house. We have a slate roof...

During a windstorm a tree knocked down our back chimney.

Tore down three walls and found a pocket door behind one of them.

Brian has become a master plumber, electrician, painter, roofer, and builder. (Remember, he's doing all of the work himself!)

So far we've had 4 birds that have been stuck in the house.

If you run all 4 furnaces in the winter, you get a $1000 heat bill. If you run 2 furnaces, your heat bill will still be around $1000.

Renovating a 105 year old house is hard work!

So, that's about what happened our first year living here. I wonder what will happen our 2nd year...
